Alfa Porcelain Patio Paving

The Pavestone Alfa Range is designed to bring understated elegance and minimalist chic to your garden patio and outdoor living spaces. The range is characterised by a subtle soft mottled texture design pattern that provides an elegant and understated finish. When combined with the proportions of the larger format slabs (900 x 600 mm), with their ordered, sawn straight lines, the aesthetic is tasteful, contemporary and subtle.

Finish & Pattern

The Alfa range is available in three options of colour/pattern:

  • Bone (a creamy beige with subtle light brown cloud-like patterns and markings with a fine mottled texture)
  • Grey Mineral (a mid-grey design with light grey flecks and elements designed to look like honed clasts in metamorphic rock, within a fine mottled texture)
  • Storm (a dark grey design with a mid-grey nebulous patterns incorporated into a fine mottled texture)

Slip-Resistant Exterior Paving

The Alfa range of porcelain patio slabs is an exterior paving product designed specially for outdoor use. This means these slabs have excellent anti-slip performance and offer better slip-resistance than natural stone and concrete paving. In addition, because porcelain paving is inherently non-porous, moisture and damp do not get into the slabs. This means elements that can increase the chance of slips (frost, ice, algae, moss and other organism) are typically absent. This makes exterior porcelain paving one of the safest forms of paving available, offering superior slip-resistance performance over traditional materials.

Paving Format

Alfa Porcelain Paving is available in the popular 900 x 600 mm format in single size packs and mini packs. These porcelain slabs have a depth of 20 mm. They are available as single size packs, and in a smaller mini pack format to allow you to achieve your desired patio coverage.

  • 900 x 600 x 20 mm

Benefits of Porcelain Paving

Porcelain Paving has many advantages over standard natural quarried stones or concrete paving. These include the following:

  • Super strong & durable
  • Easy to clean
  • No need to seal
  • Easier maintenance
  • Frost resistant
  • Algae resistant
  • Non-Porous (Waterproof)
  • Better slip resistance
  • Scratch and abrasion-resistant
  • Consistent colouration
  • Fade-resistant

Porcelain Paving vs Natural Stone Paving

Porcelain paving ticks all the boxes. The price of porcelain compared to natural stone and concrete initially puts customers off. However, you are paying for the quality, performance characteristics and longevity of your garden and lower lifetime-costs.

Porcelain will outlive all other types of stone, which will save you money in the long run; especially as typically, the slabs only account for 20-30% of the initial cost of laying a new patio installation. If kept well maintained, your porcelain patio will still look brand new in 10 years time.  You simply can’t put a price on slabs of this quality when looking at the long-term (10 years plus) solution for your garden.

Laying Comments

Porcelain paving uses printed designs on the surface of the slab to create the patterns. Each pack will typically contain a variety of designs. To ensure you do not lay matching patterns adjacent to one another and to ensure the blend/mix looks more varied, we advise inspecting the slabs prior to installation and determining your laying pattern. This ensures that the overall desired hue is achieved and evens out any slight colour discrepancies when laying more than one pack, too. Laying your patio one pallet at a time can lead to slight but visible colour banding.

Porcelain paving is non-porous and, therefore, requires a Slurry Primer to ensure it bonds properly with the bedding mortar. The priming slurry should be applied to the underside of each paving tile just prior to laying. Please refer to the laying instructions if in any doubt.

A flexible Jointing Grout should be used, and care must be taken not to let it dry on the surface of the tile. We recommend applying a protective sealant to your porcelain tiles to help prevent marking from grout residue (Porcelain Tile Protector).
