We supply aggregates needed for specifically for paving installations and landscaping projects including MOT type-1 hardcore, sharp sand, kiln dried sand, 20mm ballast, shingle, builders’ sand and cement.
Here is a quick breakdown of what you'll need for your paving project:
MOT Hardcore Type-1 - Your patio area should be dug out and 150mm of compacted and level DTp1 Hardcore (AKA MOT Hardcore Type-1) should be used to construct the base. Type-1 hardcore varies from 40mm to dust in particulate size.
Mortar Bed - Paving slabs and cobbles should be laid on a full mortar bed which sits on the hardcore base. The mortar should be made using a 5-1 ratio of sharp sand to cement. Sharp sand is graded from 0.06mm to 2mm in particulate size and offers superior strength and bonding properties over finer builders’ sand.
Sharp Sand - Driveway block paving should be laid on 50mm of compacted sharp sand that is added on top of the hardcore base. Once compacted, the sharp sand is then screed to level it before blocks are added.
Builders Sand - for elements that will be visible where a more refined finish is needed builders sand should be used in the mortar mix.
0/20mm Ballast - Washed ballast which contains particulates up to 20mm is ideal for creating strong concrete used in foundations, footings and concrete bases.
